No significant snow in Northern New Mexico did not stop the University of New Mexico ski team from getting in
some runs on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 13, 14) at the Red River Ski Area.

The 40-minute drive from Taos to Red River takes you through a rolling landscape with desert-mesa vistas to your left, the Sangre de Cristos to your right, and the village of Questa at the halfway point. The polar opposite from adobe, pueblos, and chakra therapy, Red River is an unvarnished throwback to a ski experience from the mid-80s, complete with brightly painted, retro lifts (aside from last season's new base-to-summit triple chair).

With all of the new activities that we will be offering on the hill this summer, we are excited to start off the season with the opeing of our new triple chairlift for summer scenic rides starting May 28th. We've also decided to give the new chair a proper name....

The old Red Chair which rose from the base of Red River Resort is gone but its replacement will be good to go when the ski area opens the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, 2009.

On a stroll down Main Street in Red River, New Mexico, we almost thought we'd stumbled onto an Old West movie set. Steep hills hovered close all around, covered with dark green pines and blanketed with brilliant white snow.
