Main Street is just a mile long, making it convenient to access shopping and great restaurants without starting your car. Red River is a resort town known for its welcoming sense of community and neighborly spirit, making it an ideal place to call home. The year-round population is approximately 539, but this number can grow to thousands during peak seasons. Located in the scenic Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico, Red River is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a big city yet close to many attractions.

Getting Here and Around

Red River is centrally located between multiple airports in New Mexico and Colorado. For the closest major airport, choose one of the many daily flights into the Albuquerque International Sunport, three hours away, or for a closer and smaller airport, Santa Fe Regional Airport, just two hours away.

Public transportation to the area is available via the North Central Regional Transit District. The signature RTD Blue Buses connect riders to New Mexico Rail Runner, Santa Fe Trails, New Mexico Park and Ride, Los Alamos Atomic City Transit, Taos Chile Line, and Red River Miner’s Transit. All of its buses are ADA-accessible and equipped with bicycle racks. 

Local service is provided by the Red River Miner's Transit, offering free year-round, seven-days-a-week, wheelchair-accessible service anywhere in town. 

For Fun

Surrounded by the Carson National Forest, Red River offers a variety of outdoor and recreational activities, including disc golf, fishing, horseback riding, biking, hiking, off-roading, camping, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and more. The Community House sponsors guided hikes in the area, yoga classes, and fun family activities. The town of Red River has several festivals and events, including Mardi Gras in the Mountains, Art & Wine Festival, 8750 BBQ & Music Festival, and Oktoberfest.
